St. John Vianney Faith Formation
2010-2011


ELEMENTARY: Grades 1-6
Director: Tamarae Schmidt

Classes will meet on Wednesday, 5:30-6:30 PM in St. John Vianney School, September through April.

The curriculum used will be "Blest Are We" published by Silver Burdett Ginn Religion.

Sacramental preparation for First Reconciliation and First Eucharist are part of the 2nd Grade curriculum.

Additional activities at the elementary level include seasonal prayer services, Faith Sharing Centers with parents for grades 1, 2, 4, and 5, a Seder Meal close to Passover for grade 6, and Activity Day for grade 3, and service projects.

The first class session is Wednesday, September 15 for all students and parents beginning at 6:00 PM in the church.


JUNIOR HIGH: Grades 7-8

Director: Molly Sagerhorn

Assisted by Father Peter Schuster

Classes will be held on Wednesday evening, 7:00 - 8:30 PM in St. John Vianney Church September through April.


Grade 7th and 8th youth and their parents will alternate classes each week.

The curriculum used is Silver Burdett Ginn "Junior High Connect"; National Federation of Catholic Youth Ministry FaithWays, and materials written by members of the St. John Vianney Office of Faith Formation and Youth Ministry following the guidelines of the National Catechetical Directory, The National Federation for Catholic Youth Ministry, and The Catechism of the Catholic Church.


Breaking Open the Word (discussing the Sunday readings), Faith Sharing Centers with parents, prayer services, service projects, and Eucharistic celebrations will be included in the curriculum.

The first class for youth and parents will be Wednesday, September 15th at 6:00 PM in church.

 

JUNIOR HIGH: Grades 9

Director: Molly Sagerhorn

Classes will be held on Wednesday evening, 7:00 - 8:30 PM September through April.


Classes will be held at St. John Vianney School from September through December.


Classes will be held in the homes of catechists from January through April.

The curriculum used is St. Mary’s Press Horizons; National Federation of Catholic Youth Ministry FaithWays, and materials written by members of the St. John Vianney Office of Faith Formation and Youth Ministry following the guidelines of the National Catechetical Directory, The National Federation for Catholic Youth Ministry, and The Catechism of the Catholic Church.

SENIOR HIGH: Grades 10

Director: Molly Sagerhorn

Classes will meet on Wednesday or Sunday evenings in the homes of the catechists from 7:00-8:30 PM beginning in October and going until the celebration of Confirmation.

The curriculums used are "Welcome to the Way!" published by Resources for Christian Living, and "Confirmed into a Faith Community" published by St. Mary’s Press. Additional materials written by members of the St. John Vianney Office of Faith Formation and Youth Ministry following the guidelines of the National Catechetical Directory, The National Federation for Catholic Youth Ministry, and The Catechism of the Catholic Church.

Other components of the confirmation program include an all day retreat, the Parish Sponsor program, Service projects (individual and class), Eucharistic celebrations, and the Commitment Prayer Service and Rehearsal.

A candidate, parent and sponsor Introductory Meeting will be held on Sunday, October 17th, beginning at 9 AM in the Hospitality Area of church. Attendance at the 10 AM Mass and the Rite of Enrollment will be part of this meeting.

The first class will be held on either Sunday, October 24th, 2010 or Wednesday, October 27, 2010.
